Neymar

Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior is a player who has caught the eye of many global spectators.

Not least from FC Barcelona who have recently signed him for a reported fee of €57 million.

This has again sparked the debate as to whether Neymar is a world class player or whether he is over rated.

Looking deeper into it his current stats both for club and country speak for themselves.

Aged 21 he already has a total of 136 goals in 225 games for club side Santos.

International wise with 38 caps to his name Neymar’s produced 23 goals and 15 assists.

To have directly contributed to 38 goals in as many games it’s no wonder why he is so highly revered within Brazil and has been dubbed as a hero by many supporters.

During the confederations cup Neymar has showed he can mix it with the best helping his side reach the final with 3 goals in 4 games including a free kick against a fantastic Italian side.

However despite this, globally many feel he has yet to show anywhere near the ability possessed by the world’s best player and has been labelled a ‘youtube player’ as he looks a world beater from internet highlights and he fails to live up to these when playing consistently.

This label is mainly by Europeans because the general consensus is that he is yet to prove himself in one of the top leagues in the world.

My personal take on it is that although he has shown he is clearly capable of scoring and assisting goals with his blistering pace, dazzling skills and clinical finishing he can’t be seen as one of the best until it is proved at a top club on a European stage.

There’s no doubt he has bags potential and Barcelona have now given him the platform to showcase his talent.

So by way of a poll, Neymar- Hero or Hype? You decide.
